Found: General Patton's Five Minute Repeating Split Second Chronograph Pocket Watch (Live Photos, Detailed History)
We see a lot of watches at HODINKEE – complicated, simple, new, and vintage. Every once in a while a watch comes across our desks that makes us stop and think about history and time. Recently, we had the pleasure of seeing a unique pocket watch from the early 20th century. This gold Tiffany & Co. watch features a five minute repeating split second chronograph movement made by Patek Philippe. The engraving on the cuvette reads, "Lieut. George S. Patton U.S.A., from his Father and Mother, June 11 1909," confirming that this is General George S. Patton's pocket watch. 1 OF 8 General George S. Patton 2 OF 8 General Patton was a U.S. Army general, who commanded forces across the Mediterranean and European theaters in World War II. He is widely regarded as one of the most successful U.S. field commanders in history, and was well known for his bravado and determination. Help Neded - 1975 Omega De Ville
Hey guys,This past weekend my father was speaking to an old friend and the topic of watches came up. Not sure how one thing led to another, but his friend offered to send him an old Omega that he had sitting in a drawer. He mentioned that it didn't work, but my father said he would like to see it.I was worried that it might be fake, but it arrived today and it seems to be authentic. The watch itself seems fine despite not working, however the leather strap seems to be aftermarket and added later on. The strap is labelled Speidel, is 18mm and stamped Hong Kong. The booklet is dated August 1st, 1975 and cost 1600 rupees which was $161 dollars. I guess that seems about right, but again, I'm not sure.If any Omega experts could chime in, I would really appreciate it. I couldn't get to the movement because it seems to go in from the front and I have no idea what I'm doing.I'm wondering if it should even be serviced or sent to someone in an attempt to get it running again. Not sure what that w
Patek Philippe 5053
I recently came into possession of a Patek Philippe 5053.Can anyone enlighten me as to the cost of a proper bracelet for this piece (as it is currently outfitted with a rubber Chopard bracelet). Also, any idea of the value of this piece (with and without a real band on it).It is white gold, so I am assuming that it is the 5053g.Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Tiffany and Patek
Patek Philippe is opening a boutique in Tiffany's of New York - this first is an experiment with the hope that Tiffany stores in other locations will also carry the line exclusively. This could mean that Patek Philippe will only sell their watches at Tiffany's - thus eliminating any discounts you may be able to squeeze from your AD. This could also signal a sea change in the way high end watches are marketed. Another gimmick to keep up the exclusivity of the brand, I suppose (although I don't know if Tiffany has that much cache' anymore), but what could it mean for other brands?
