Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve 2010 Watch Award Winners
Last night was the watch industry's annual big award show gala event - the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve (GPHG). These are our Oscars, and the 2010 winners are interesting. A few surprises, and a lot of watches that just keep winning. I was invited to the ceremony, but was unfortunately unable to stick around in Europe long enough after my last trip to go this year. Next year I will go, and might just sport a Timex!Surprises that I am happy to see? Seiko won the prize for the best Sports Watch with the Spring Drive Spacewalk Commemorative Edition watch. MB&F won for best Design & Concept Watch with their HM4 Thunderbolt. The best Men's Watch prize went to Laurent Ferrier for his Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Balance Spring watch, that I am proud to say was first introduced by me to the world on the Internet here.Really happy about everyone that won. Jack Shephard's Porsche Design Watch On Lost
Regular readers of mine know that I get a kick out of spotting watches in TV shows and movies. A regular viewer of Lost, I have always been curious to know what watch was being worn by Matthew Fox's character Jack Shephard. Of course, while on the island he does not wear a watch, but back in civilization in Los Angeles, he is always seen the watch watch. The show producers are loathe to give the watch much camera time. In fact, the only watch that was given attention was the Rolex Daytona that Jin was carrying as a business gift in season 1. But I digress. A few episodes ago (in the final season, maybe episode 3 or so) I was caught off guard as the camera gives Jack's wrist a closeup as he checks the time. Why the chronograph was running in the shot I don't know, but that glimpse was enough for me to spot the brand - Porsche Design.I still didn't know what model it was though. Hi allI have fallen in love with the new AP Carbon ROO (pic is one on my wrist)ImageUploadedByTapatalk1338017851.778379.jpgI have a question on the durability and toughness of carbon in watches. I have read on a blog recently that carbon is not a good material for a watch case as it is prone to chipping.Does anyone own a carbon watch and able to give some real life advice.I do not baby my watches and love to wear them and do not want to buy something that I will be consistently worried about.Any real life opinions very welcome before I pull the trigger.Thanks!
