Seiko Spring Drive Spacewalk Limited Edition Watch To be Auctioned Off
This is one of the few times I have seen a watch at auction and thought to myself "damn, I need to be there for that." This is the very ultra cool Seiko Spring Drive Spacewalk watch. There are only six of these watches in the world, and Seiko made them to celebrate Richard Garriot's 'celebutrip' to the ISS (International Space Station) with the Russians. The story is actually kinda sad if you ask me. Richard Garriot became famous as a video game designer. Fame came with the Ultima series of computer RPG games, and most lately, the MMORPG game Tabula Rasa was supposedly interesting, but a flop. Anyone, Garriot become a millionaire and watches so much to go to space. His dad was an astronaut, and he just wanted the same thing for himself. Garriot reportedly spent the bulk of his fortune to get the Russians to take him to space. Lots of training and quasi-gulag living, and he did it. 100 meters water resistance Piaget Polo 45 Flyback Chronograph Watch
Go with the theme of sport, the watch is water-resistant to 100 metres while the strap is rubber for a secure fit. Inside of the watch is automatically a house built calibre Piaget 880 P. The movement includes a 30 flyback chronograph minute (you can reset it without having to stop), with a second timezone. At the top of the dial, Piaget places their date of renewable eccentric reverse. Dial design is edifying and clear. The subdials are labelled, which expect will be appreciated when you try to read the subdials quickly. The second timezone is displayed in a time of 24 hours (GMT). Despite all these complications, the movement has a double barrels because 50 hours power reserve indicates engine. I will not attempt to write another critical review as this has been done by many others who are much more knowledgeable. This review is about why, as a watch enthusiast, I love my Omega Speedmaster Professional. The Omega Speedmaster Professional is not a modern watch. The first version of this watch came out in 1957 and has changed only slightly in the years since. The manual wind, non-hacking movement is a pleasure to operate. The watch needs your attention everyday and the interaction is something I miss with my automatic watches. Even setting the time requires a special procedure. The time is set by pulling the crown out, setting the hour and minute hand and placing back-pressure on the crown which stops the seconds sub-dial. Omega Deep Black (Blue) Planet Ocean or Rolex GMT Master II BLNR
Guys,I've been looking at the Deep Black Planet Ocean's, particually the Blue version. I also looked at some Tag Heuer's namely the Tag Heuer 02T Tourbillon CAR5A8Y.FC6377, which is quite pricey but in the range of the Deep Black and the Tourbillon factor is very intriguing. I am also thinking about the non-Tourbillon Skeleton Dial Blue Heuer 01 Chronograph or the Black Ceramic version. However I ran across the Rolex GMT Master II BLNR and and very smitten with the design. I had a Sub No Date previously and sold it, because I was afraid to wear it when I first got into the hobby and prefered my Omega's. The BLNR wears drastically different than the Deep Black, but the Deep Black also wears smaller than I thought it would.
