Girard-Perregaux 35th Anniversary Laureato Quartz
2010 marks a double anniversary for Girard-Perregaux: 35 years of the Laureato collection and 40 years since its first quartz wristwatches. The Manufacture played an important role in the development of quartz movements; it set the frequency of 32,768 Hz, since adopted by all manufacturers as the universal standard. The Story of Quartz at Girard-PerregauxIn the 1960s, Girard-Perregaux was one of the few brands with an in-house R&D department, positioning the firm to respond to the advent of then cutting-edge quartz movements. American, Japanese and Swiss firms raced to bring the technology to market. While most Swiss watchmakers were undertaking joint research, from 1962 the G-P manufacture struck out on its own, not wanting to be dependent on outside suppliers. In 1969 the brand received its first patent relating to quartz technology. At the 1970 Basel fair, G-P unveiled the Elcron, a quartz wristwatch featuring an 8,192 Hz quartz oscillator. My Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Forged Carbon Article On AskMen.com
Part of me has a love/hate relationship with Audemars Piguet. I really enjoy many of their watches, although I don't think they are perfect. Some of their designs are so classic and still hip, and I find myself really liking some of the pieces. Then I think to myself how overpriced some of the stuff is, and how a lot of what the company is - epitomizes the snobby luxury watch culture that I personally reject. Anyhow, this is the Forged Carbon version of the Royal Oak Offshore watch. A neat bumble bee of a timepiece with a lot of stuff going on. Stealth-wealth exterior and a fancy manufacture made movement inside.See my Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Forged Carbon watch article on AskMenwatches-dealer here. I love this watch and want to add one to my collection. Only issue is the bracelet is not my cup of tea. Looks like the only options are the Rubber or Leather, Croc with buckle or clasp. Is there any other options available for a solid end link bracelet that would look well more substantial? As it is I am leaning to a brown leather strap. The vintage B is such a fine touch
Thoughts on de ville coaxial chronograph 9300?
Just wondering if anyone had seen this watch and what were their thoughts. The de ville collection never gets any respect as the aqua terra overshadows it. I feel it tries to be an everyday watch with somewhat getting away with a suit yet able to be a weekender. I really liked and how the chronograph works however trying it on it's just too big. 16mm I believe so, such a shame otherwise it would of gone into my collection.
5980/1r-001 discontinued?
G'day everyone...Just a quick question... patek philippe 5980/1r-001 still in production? I am confused is it only the SS 5980 been discontinued since the 5980/1r-001 was only launched this year right ? Or is it discontinued for the entire 5980 range? Thank you for your kind feedbacks...
