Bring a Loupe: A Selection Of Vintage Chronographs, Including A Rare Rolex 'Pre-Daytona,' A Heuer Skipper And A Universal Geneve Tri-Compax
This week, vintage watches are back in full force. In this Bring A Loupe you will find some heavy hitters, starting with a coveted Rolex "Pre-Daytona" with a black dial. Also expect to see an outstanding Heuer Skipper, an original Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic, and an unusual Type 20 from an unexpected source. Finally, a great Universal Geneve Tri-Compax just came back on eBay, but maybe not for the better. This is your Bring A Loupe for March 25, 2016. A Rolex 'Pre-Daytona' Reference 6238 With Coveted Black Dial 1 OF 8 The reference 6238 is often considered as the starting point of the Daytona line, as it displayed the modern-looking dials that can then be found in the first Daytona, the reference 6239. The 6238, nicknamed the Pre-Daytona, was launched in the early 1960s, only three years before the introduction of the reference 6239 C the first actual Daytona C that Ben described in depth here. The dial layout of these two references is almost identical, and
Breitling at Sams Club?
Was Just at Sams Club, and saw a Breitling for Bentley Fling B. Is it common to see luxury watches at places like Sams? The nicest I've seen before today was a Tag Heuer Carerra.
New Thoughts
As my signature shows, I've love Panerai & Rolex. However, I popped into Omega's site today and was quite fond of the Speedmaster Day-date reference 3221.30.00. Very SEXY!!!Can any of you fellow TRF's give some feedback on this piece? What can I expect in terms of price from an AD and any discounts they may give? How's the movement?I am new to Omega and have never even tried one on. My next watch was slated to be a Daytona, but it appears this watch is significantly cheaper. Just looking to see how this one stacks up??? Your input is appreciated!
Crazy week in England!
As some may know, about a year ago I decided to consolidate 3 of my 5 Rolex Sports for a 5711 Nautilus. I sold them around 1 year ago, put the funds into my savings account and patiently waited......Fast forward to last Friday, I happened to be in the UK and sadly still no sign of my Nautilus. To console myself I was lucky enough to pickup up a brand new sealed 5167A that was pre-arranged before my trip. After collection I dashed to the London Salon to get the strap sized and at the same time also picked up a khaki version for the upcoming summer. Love it to bits, especially the weight (or lack of it) and I think it’s the perfect size for my 7”ish wrist. On my penultimate last day in the UK I am rushing around London like a mad man picking up shopping for the mrs and kids to take back on the flight home. All this shopping is thirsty work so I pop into a pub off Oxford Street for a sneaky pint of Guinness and check my emails..... “I’ve got your 5711/1A h
Ladies Calatrava help
Hello everyone I am looking for a ladies Calatrava in either white gold or platinum. It will be a gift for my wifeI have a Calatrava 5127 and I think that it will be very cute if I could find a ladies Calatrava that has a very similar casing.Alternatively I think an Ap or a vc would do just as well but since I have a Calatrava I thought it might be kinda cool for her to have a matching watch.Any ideas?
