Hajime Asaoka Tourbillon Watch
I am not too familiar with independent Japanese watch makers. There are lots of smaller brands making timepieces in Japan aside from the big three (Seiko, Casio, and Citizen), but most of those are less expensive or novelty pieces. Here is a high-end independent Japanese watch maker you should be familiar with named Hajime Asaoka - with a brand of the same name. His watch is the simply named Hajime Asaoka Tourbillon and it is a very attractive timepiece. The design is actually more architectural and art deco than it is traditionally Japanese. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but aside from the name and "Tokyo Japan" label on the dial, there isn't much to let you know this is a fine Japanese instrument. For me the design quickly becomes appealing as you begin to identify its values. This is about an expression of technique and industrial design. A good start is to look at the tourbillon bridge. It is formed out of a single piece of steel that has a bar through the middle and an
Nomos Introduces the Tetra Neomatik
Nomos is a brand that should need little introduction on w&w. A staff and crowd favorite, Nomos' watches exude style, elegance and value like no other brand. Made in Glashtte, these in-house beauties are in a class of their own, something a mere glance at pieces like the Orion 38 Datum, Club and Metro will surely make obvious. Last year at Baselworld, Nomos announced a new watch, the Minimatik, but more significantly, a new movement; the DUW 3001. This ultra-thin automatic suggested a lot of great things to come, watches that would maintain the pure lines and restrained case dimensions of their existing hand-wound watches, but add the convenience of rotor winding. In the year that followed, Nomos released a line within most of their lines called "neomatik" which added the 3001 movement as an option alongside other hand-wound calibers. Available in two color ways per watch line, kind of a classic silver as well as a peachier champagne. So, for example, there are now multiple automat
Discount on AP Diver
I am wondering what sort of discounts people are seeing from their ADs on the Diver. Basic black/black model. Not the special colors. Thanks in advance for any intel on this.
PO strap options
I have a 45.5 PO chrono on the bracelet and have tried the rubber dive strap (which seems kind of wimpy) and an Omega rubber w/ orange stitching strap. Does anyone have pictures of the PO on a Nato/Zulu, Kevlar or Sailcloth type strap? The size of the watch really needs a substantial strap. Thanks for any pics.
PAM 372 Strap
Hi, all.I am a first time poster looking for some info. I have wanted a Panerai since first seeing one in the 90's/early 2000's. I bought my first real watch 10 years ago, Rolex Sub, and am now ready to purchase another for my 40th b-day. I am drawn to the 112 and 372, but am leaning toward the 372. One thing is I really do not like the strap offered on the new models. I absolutely love the darker brown strap that was offered on the early models. Is it possible to still buy that strap from Panerai or do they only make them for the watch and discontinue after they move to a new strap offering. I do see that there are many after market straps that are awesome, but I would like to have the original from Panerai.I appreciate any response!
