4 Limited-Edition Watches Celebrate China’s Year of the Horse
January 31 marked the start of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Horse. Since the huge growth in demand for luxury watches in the Asian market, several top watch brands have commemorated the lunar New Year with limited-edition timepieces. We’ve already shown you Jaquet Droz’s Ateliers d’Art Horse watches; here are four more from three other luxury brands. The recently revitalized Arnold & Son brand has released a limited edition of 28 pairs of watches celebrating the Year of the Horse, with black or white lacquered dials that feature hand-finished miniature paintings of charging horse, inspired by those depicted in traditional Chinese ink-wash paintings. One of the watches’ dials features a black and a gray horse on a white lacquer background and the other a white and a gray horse on a black background. Service PAM000 by Panerai or watchmaker?
I purchased a used PAM000 (Calibre OP 1) that has not been serviced since its initial purchase (nearly 6 years). Is it worth getting this thing serviced by Panerai? Or should I save the cash and get it serviced by a competent watchmaker? Any risks in going with a competent watchmaker (such as testing for sealing and water resistance)? Finally, what are the estimated prices for getting it serviced by (a) Panerai, and (b) competent watchmaker? Thanks!
Tudor Black Bay - Customized Leather
I'm thinking it might be possible to find a 3rd party leather strap and transfer the deployment buckle onto it. The deployment buckle is removed from the leather via a very normal spring bar assembly. In order to do this, the leather strap would need to be 22mm wide, tapered to 17.5-18mm where it connects to the deployment buckle. The other side would have the same 20mm-to-18mm taper. The end that is connected to the deployment buckle would need to be about 60mm/2.3in long while the end with the holes in it would need to be about 130mm/5.1in long. This would give us endless opportunities to customize yet retain the very cool Tudor-branded deployment system.Anyone have any good recommendations where I might start hunting for straps that could match the above, or come close? This is a thought experiment for now. But if I found another good (plain) leather strap that seemed to fit, I'd try it out.
A Colorful Duo
I recently picked up an LVC to go along with my BLNR. Who knew all this color would be so much fun?! Which one do you prefer?
