Hands-On: A Critical Comparison Of The Seiko Eichi II, Laurent Ferrier Galet Micro-Rotor, And Philippe Dufour Simplicity
Seiko is associated primarily with a wide range of moderately priced and reliable watches, but surprisingly, the watchmaking division operates within the diversified conglomerate Seiko Group, whose many specialties include upscale department stores, printers, semiconductors, machine tools, and of course, watches. Seiko has deep roots in timekeeping – founder Kintaro Hattori started to produce clocks in 1892 under the name Seikosha, and in 1969, almost swept the Swiss watchmaking industry off its feet with the introduction of Astron, the first commercial quartz watch. The brand has an enthusiastic collector base and an unparalleled breadth in the lineup that stretches from mainstream quartz to haute-horlogerie, something that is unique in the watchmaking industry, and a depth that is surprising given the wide spectrum of businesses the parent company is involved in.Seikosha translates to “House of Exquisite Workmanship,” and Seiko’s high-end Credor line takes thi

You may have already read Ben Clymer's thoughts on the upcoming (May 14th) Phillips "Start-Stop-Reset" auction, which is populated with an almost improbably rich collection of 88 of some of the rarest, most interesting, and most desirable vintage stainless-steel chronographs out there (the offering's so spectacular it's a little unsettling). Phillips has another auction the day after, as well: "The Geneva Watch Auction: Three." The latter isn't themed but that doesn't mean it isn't also full of some really interesting and unusual timepieces, so we sat down here at HODINKEE to do a little window shopping and see which ones from each auction we'd pick if we had the kind of war chest we dream of having. Here's what caught our eye. Look at the color...the attention to detail. It's a little large on my son, but he'll grow into it. No AD experience but quick shipping and great service. $12.00 USD on Amazon. I had David SW looking for months, but the elusive red on red dial and strap configuration was not easy to find.Oh...No discount! ;-)
Transocean GMT
My wife and spent the day at Clarkson Jewelers, our local Rolex AD. They had a Holiday Open House all weekend. I don't think that many people knew they were open on Sunday. We had the run of the store for the majority of +2 hours. We got to try on just about every watch they had. Then my wife spots a Yatchmaster, about the same I spotted this Transocean GMT. And now we have two new watches. We didn't take pictures of all the watches we tried on but I included the ones we did try.And the chrono I REALLY wanted!
Is the Omega 2500 a good calibre?
I recently read in another post that the 2500 fitted with the co-axial escapement was not necessarily a good calibre. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
