A Week On The Wrist: The Slim D'Hermes (And Some Thoughts On What Makes Or Breaks A Dial)
Think about Hermès and suddenly your mind envisions magnificent French leather goods. Yet, this manufacture also has had a very important place in horology, collaborating with Jaeger-LeCoultre, and for decades retailing Universal Genève wristwatches in Paris. Hermès also started producing its own lines of watches in the late 1970s. The Arceau, Heure H, and Cape Cod that I saw during my childhood in France exhibited the elegance, and playful design, characteristic of the brand. To be frank, at that time they lacked serious cred for watch enthusiasts, as they relied on fairly standard quartz or automatic movements. Things started to change with the collaboration with the Manufacture Vaucher Fleurier 10 years ago, but the Slim might well be the turning point for Hermès watches, and I had the Slim for a Week On The Wrist to find out the answer. 1 OF 14 In 2006, Hermès addressed its lack of in-house-movement manufacturing by taking a 25% owne
Project X Diver
There is a local Dealer I work with that has a Project X Diver for sale. I am normally totally against DLC Coating on watches, but this thing is awesome. My concern is Resale Value/Ability.Will this be a hard watch to move should I ever want to sell it? Will it hold its value? His asking price is very reasonable considering what Project X Designs charges for the watch. I would be trading a 16570 Polar Explorer (That I never wear anymore) along with Cash if I decide to pull the trigger. Anyone here have a Project X Diver? I have never seen one in the wild before seeing his today. I have included a picture in case your not familiar with the watch, and a link to Project X's page describing this beauty. Thanks! Patek movie spotting
What was the watch that Ryan Reynolds had in the beginning of the Hitman Bodyguard? I'm not a big Patel guy but the screen shots were awesome.
Large dial Pateks - fake or real?
Hi. In canvassing the web for Pateks, I notice some big ones that seem to suggest old movements from 1880s or so, purportedly pocket watches of that era that have now been converted into wrist watches, keeping the original 'enamel casing' but now housed in glass. Dial size is a massive 45mm to even 51mm (at which size it could be worn on the forearm more than on the wrist). I would imagine these would border on fakes but the machinery seems genuinely from that time, which means it's original Patek and the official servicing might still be supported. And the sellers who sell this type of stuff are rated 100% positive on big ecommerce sites -- like the bay one. So the watches seem legit. One of the sellers says that these movements are genuine and widely covered in the Patek books. How can I confirm (or otherwise) these claims? Where can I find these books? Google doesn't turn up anything meaningful. The seller has been quite convincing -- and he's the owner of a pretty solid looking bus
