Devon Star Wars Limited Edition Watch Based On The Tread 1
Not so long ago, in a galaxy just around the corner, Nixon released a new wave of Star Wars watches in anticipation of the upcoming installment of the world famous franchise. Today, we announce the release of another Star Wars-inspired watch from another American brand: watches from Devon Works are already well-known in the horological community for a pioneering time-telling mechanism that uses printed belts instead of hands to indicate the passing hours, minutes, and seconds. With the "Star Wars by Devon" co-branded luxury timepiece, the Los Angeles-based design team have rained on their Californian neighbors' parade. This is essentially a revised version of the famed Devon Tread 1 (that watches-dealer debuted here in 2010 and reviewed here) made in partnership with Disney and Lucasfilm for Star Wars and, of course, debuted today on "Force Friday."Okay, so maybe it is unfair to compare Nixon's efforts with those of Devon. For one thing, the prices couldn't be further apart. The Devon
On Kickstarter: Vilhelm Watches, The Element
The micro-universe of crowd-funded watch brands is ever expanding these days. A little bit of knowledge, some supplier sources and the Kickstarter platform and nearly anyone can sell their own brand of watch. New brand Vilhelm Watches is one of those using Kickstarter to launch their first watch, The Elemental. No, it's not another round, simple, time-only quartz driven watch with a canvas strap. The Elemental is, well, different, in a few ways.First off the design is clearly eye-catching and far from a traditional round stainless steel cased watch. The 43mm case has rugged looks with what is could closest be described as a cushion style case with some squared off elements. Adding to the interest of this case design are the three materials that make up its construction. Yes, three. The individual materials are forged carbon, ceramic and titanium. The base of the case is made from the forged carbon. This light material is made from carbon fiber strands and forged together to create a str
HELP!!! Independent service vs AP service center
Hi Guys,I recently purchased my first AP. Its a titanium ROO. Watch was purchased new from AP retailer in 2010. I purchased it from original owner ( my business partner). Watch was working great then began to notice that it had about 5-6 hours of power reserve. Now, no matter how many times I wind the watch it will not run. There is an independent watch service center (Universal watch repair in birmingham MI) which is very well known. They service high end, high complication watches from all around the US. They say they are very comfortable working on AP watches. Clearwater says I will be without my watch for 3-4 months. I know they do great work but really dont want to be without my watch for that long. Universal says they can do the service and check out watch in 2 weeks and for half the price. What do you guys thinks? Thanks for the help
Patek - Daily Wearing? 5726
Hey everyone - sometime before the end of the year I will be ordering/purchasing a new Patek 5726 Grey on a Bracelet - I have loved the look of the watch ever since i saw it at our local AD a few years back before I really could afford to buy it.So my small collection of nice watches so far is all Rolex, I have a black 116610 sub and also a blue white gold 116619 sub as well - both of these watches swap places on my wrist for months at a time, except when I wear one of my basic watches when I do yard work and stuff - this is where my question lies - is the Patek built to be worn daily?? My job isn't crazy, I am a office guy working in the marketing technology space - but have never had something this nice before and I just wanted to understand how 'daily wearer' this watch can be.When spending this much on a nice thing, early on I know it will be for special occasions only - but over time as I get comfortable it will likely spend weeks/months on my wrist - so just trying to understand
Thanks Honey, Incoming!
I have to preface by saying that my amazing wife of 10 years said to me I just don't get this watch thing. Fortunately she has not shut me off yet. Thanks to William.L.! Picture heavy.
