4 Limited-Edition Watches Celebrate China’s Year of the Horse
January 31 marked the start of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Horse. Since the huge growth in demand for luxury watches in the Asian market, several top watch brands have commemorated the lunar New Year with limited-edition timepieces. We’ve already shown you Jaquet Droz’s Ateliers d’Art Horse watches; here are four more from three other luxury brands. The recently revitalized Arnold & Son brand has released a limited edition of 28 pairs of watches celebrating the Year of the Horse, with black or white lacquered dials that feature hand-finished miniature paintings of charging horse, inspired by those depicted in traditional Chinese ink-wash paintings. One of the watches’ dials features a black and a gray horse on a white lacquer background and the other a white and a gray horse on a black background. A close-up look at the paintings reveals tiny brushstrokes that create the rich, detailed texture of the images. The Arnold & Son HM Horses watches hav
Time Tutelary One Watch Winder Review: Affordably Gets Job Done Without Fuss
This is the first review were I took something apart because of past negative experiences with similar products. I needed to make sure that it was mechanically and electronically up to snuff before I could recommend it - but more on that later. You need a watch winder if you have any automatic mechanical watches. This takes the hassle out of winding your automatic watches when you aren't wearing them for more than a day or so. This is especially important if you have many automatic watches. I have had no less than a dozen watch winders in less than four years, and not all of them are "still alive." So a coherent review of a reasonably priced watch winder is merited.Oddly enough, the watch industry has incredible difficultly getting decent low-cost watch winders out to us. For that reason you will find that most of the affordable ones are Chinese made, unless you want to spend many hundreds or thousands of dollar for something basic that is American or European made. Having said that, a
Saw it, bought it.
I had been researching my next purchase for a while, I had looked at and considered many models and brands. Eventually I decided that I would get a Patek 5146 annual calendar. My AD had ordered another strap for my 5167 and I was supposed to go and get it yesterday. I had asked a couple weeks ago about seeing a 5146 but didn't specify metal or dial, at the time they did not have one.Lucky me, because they got in 25 or so Pateks after not receiving any for a long while. I got to try on pretty much all the models I had been considering including: 5396, 5146, 5119, 5127, and the 5123. The 5146J-010 was the one. I knew I liked the gray dial just from the pictures and it was confirmed when I tried it on.The 5146 is a lot of money, but I couldn't leave it behind. With that, I present to you my annual calendar.
