Introducing the Archimede 1950's
There aren't many contemporary dress watches on the affordable end of the spectrum that are truly worth purchasing. The ones with any appeal are usually modern interpretations of historical designsHamilton and Tissot certainly have a few, as does Orient. But most of these reissues often miss the mark with a detail or two that leave one feeling colda misplaced date window or an inflated case size, just to name a few. And the brands that do get it right, namely the Max Bill line from Junghans, are generally priced higher than comparable brands. But what if I were to tell you that there's finally a watch out there with all the right vintage details, boasting rugged German construction, and at an easy-to-swallow price just north of $500? Well, lucky day, because I'm about to do just that. Say hello to the Archimede 1950's.Archimede, as our faithful readers may already know, is a bit of a fan-favorite here at Worn&Wound.? Few brands offer the price-to-value ratio that Archimede does,
Zodiac Watches Brings Back the Super Sea Wolf
Zodiac is among those handful of brands that we get pretty excited about here at worn&wound. Especially with their recent efforts to revive the brand by bringing back classic designs (see the Zodiac Watches Make a Comeback post for more) such as the Astrographic, Sea Dragon and the Sea Wolf. The brand has not been resting in the last year and are bringing back another iconic Zodiac design: the Super Sea Wolf. The Zodiac Super Sea Wolf was originally released in the 1970's as a "big brother" to the original Sea Wolf. The Super had improvements, such as a different case back design (screw down vs. snap back), a new patented crown and stem system along with 750 meters of water resistance (over the 200 meter for the Sea Wolf). It was also bigger, quite a bit bigger. The design has long been a hit with watch collectors and thankfully Zodiac has resurrected it for a new generation of watch buyers. The new Super Sea Wolf, due out Fall 2015, clearly has the DNA of the original. The case is t
The Grail has landed :)
Not that long ago, I decided that I was through with buying any more watches for the time being. It turned out that I was wrong, but if you'll bear with me I'll do my best to explain why...Firstly, I had no less than 4 absolutely gorgeous Rolex sports watches in the collection - a 1665, a 1675, a 5513 and a 1680. In fact, the 1680 was without doubt one the best I've ever seen, but to own two Subs from the same year was just a little too self-indulgent for comfort . Bearing in mind that the 5513 is equally nice, I had some thinking to do when I received a recent request from the former owner to buy it back.Secondly, whilst my Mk II Speedy was a fantastic-looking watch, I learnt a lesson through owning it. It's obvious that I love a bit of vintage, but I found that the replacement dial and hands on the Mk II meant that I was regarding it in a slightly different light to my others; and this was exacerbated when I found myself feeling the love for some of the slightly more original example
Panda day
Just admiring my pandas. Both are great watches. Very different price point. But overall quite similar. Highly recommend either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My First Rolex (114060)
So I picked up a brand new 114060 this past Monday from a local AD. I'm stoked I finally have one as I've been saving a bit for it. Here are a few iPhone shots. IMG_5577.JPGIMG_5579.JPGIMG_5580.JPGSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
