Terrible movie....but Awesome Omega Shots...AT GMT, A Speedmaster '57, an Orange Gold Speedmaster 9300...Without that, the movie would have been insufferable...but on Watch shots alone, I have to give it a thumbs up
Patek mind games: separating the money from the watch
I've been collecting watches for about ten years. I've had over 100 watches of almost every brand, from Anonimo and Marathon to Doxa and Panerai. I always come back to Rolex. For a long time, my dream watch was a 5512 and I've been wearing one now for about 6 months. But lately, I became spellbound by the 5711. I've never owned a watch anywhere near as expensive as the 5711.I'm in a position to buy one if I could find one secondhand or get on a wait list. But I'm having kind of a watch crisis. Being able to spend $30K on a watch has been messing with my mind a lot. Now I look at, say, a 16610 - a watch I dreamed of for twenty years that I've now owned in multiple incarnations - and it seems rather diminutive. Why? I keep thinking, A 5711 is like wearing 6 16610s. I feel like the money is really blurring the line between ego and appreciation. It's like being able to afford one has the potential of turning me into an instant watch snob. I'm worried about how my thoughts have transitioned
Patek king of watches?
Whatever some might say, that there are other brands which make as good or even better watches than Patek, for example Lange, or independents like FP Journe, which is true, Patek doesn't have the monopoly of quality, when you look at their offerings, I don't see another brand which comes even close to it, for me Lange is an incredible brand also, but their variety of watches is far from being as vast as Patek, if you just look at the variety of minute repeaters actually available from Patek, they have 21 options, in the sense that some models are available in 3 different metals, this is just incredible, I know that all the top brands have a few, but 21? I don't think so, I won't even go into the PC, AC, chronos, and other possibilities.Patek has dress pieces, sporty dress pieces like Nautilus and Aquanaut, and what I would consider in between pieces, not sporty and not dressy, like the 5960P for example, when you look at a brand like AP, that some adore, unless I am mistaken what is AP
Advice on a 5396
I have been considering a 5146G for some time and then happened to try on a 5396G while visiting NY last month. I am thinking now, that is the watch for me (looking for a long term PP...not something to flip in a year or two). Really caught my eye as sleek and a modern classic piece. Also liked the white face over the cream face on the 5146.The 5396 to my eye seems more business or formal (but hoping I can dress it down a bit with maybe a mat strap) vs the 5146. Not looking for an everyday piece but also dont want it to be too limiting. Any thoughts on this?I think the 5146 is and will always be seen as a classic. Question is what about the 5396? Crystal balls out please! I know its person choice but does the PP community here think the 5396 a long term keeper or will it fade off as a miss in a few more years time? Or should I just stick with the more tried and true 5146?Thanks in advance for any advice or commentary. Borrowed a few pics just for reference.
Had a text message from AD saying current list needs registration in person
I was already on the list and was put on in person at the store But today received this text hopefully it will stop people getting on the list without even stepping foot in storeMessage is below Good Morning, this is the Rolex Manager at Goldsmiths . I am contacting you as you have shown interest in potential new Basel release models. I would like to inform you that as of today, in order for you to confirm any interest you must now be entered on a registration system which can only be updated by you being in store and sitting with one of our Rolex team. I understand that some of you have shown interest some time ago however this is now going to be a practice carried out throughout the Aurum Group. So to confirm any list you are currently on will not be honoured until you have registered in person in store.Regards
