Elvis Presley’s Omega Fetches King’s Ransom at Antiquorum Auction
“Thank you, thank you very much!”That’s what the folks at Antiquorum Auctioneers might be saying today to the private collector who acquired the showcase piece at this week’s auction in New York, an Omega Constellation once owned by the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley. The watch sold for an astounding $52,500, five times its pre-sale estimate and a world record for that reference.Elvis’s Omega, a rare, black-dialed Constellation Calendar produced around 1960, was the most high-profile of 269 timepieces on the block at Antiquorum’s “Important Vintage and Modern Timepieces” auction, held at its Manhattan headquarters on June 12. The watch has an automatic chronometer movement with center seconds and date and a steel case with rose-gold plating. Antiquorum put the pre-sale estimate at $10,000 to $20,000, but bids for the coveted piece of rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia quickly escalated to a final hammer price of $52,5
Introducing the Defakto Kinetik
Defakto is a German watch brand known for its commitment to minimalist design. Alongside Limes and Archimede, Defakto is owned by the famed Ickler family, who has been in the business of producing high quality watchcases in Germany since 1924. Defakto was founded in 2009 by Raphael Ickler, whose minimalist vision has guided the brand since day one. In the past, we've reviewed a number of different watches from Defakto's catalogue, among them the Akkord, the Akkord Modular, the Eins, and the Detail. Each watch was expertly executed, punching well above their weight with impressive fit and finish. Last week Defakto quietly revealed their newest watchthe Kinetikand it's the coolest one yet, boasting a design ethos that exemplifies simple done right. The Kinetik comes in a 3-piece case housing an ETA 2824-2. At 39mm, the Kinetic is a great subdued size relative to the rest of the market, and it's also the smallest watch Defakto currently makes. The stainless steel case is available in two
Learning To Print Tiffany & Co. Dials With Patek Philippe In New York
Patek Philippe has had a close, continuous relationship with Tiffany & Co. since 1851. And back in November, Patek Philippe released the limited edition "Tiffany dial" 5396G annual calendar to celebrate the fifth anniversary of their boutique in Tiffany & Co.'s Fifth Avenue flagship (John Mayer goes into more detail on this collaboration here). Tiffany & Co. is the only co-branding Patek still offers, and this week we had a chance to visit the brand's new New York headquarters to see how these special dials are produced - and we even got to stamp one ourselves. 2 OF 8 Stamping The Dial While the 5369G is a limited edition piece exclusive to the Fifth Avenue Patek Philippe boutique in Tiffany & Co., many Pateks purchased at this location can have "Tiffany & Co." added to the dial. On some models the stamp is added as soon as the watches arrive in New York, while on others (often models which don't have an obvious pl
