Watches NEWS
Introducing: The Omega Globemaster Annual Calendar
This time last year, Omega brought out what they would position as the ultimate all-purpose, every day watch in the Globemaster. The watch has a lot going for it as is, but now Omega has upped the ante with a Globemaster with annual calendar complication. 1 OF 2 Now in 41 mm (the normal Globemaster is 39 mm), this new annual calendar features each month of the year in the 12 facets of the trademark pie-pan dial. Then, a thin blued hand points towards the current month, which then instantly jumps at month's end. 2 OF 2 The case remains stainless steel while the polished, fluted bezel is made of scratch-proof tungsten carbide. As with the other Globemasters, the annual calendar features a co-axial, master chronometer certification from METAS. More details, including pricing and hands-on photos, to come.More from Omega here. Don't have the HODINKEE App yet? Omega Constellation F300 Dial Question
Has anyone ever seen this dial? It looks black in regular lighting, but in sunlight/bright light it is actually brown and lightens toward the middle of the dial. Has it gone tropical, or is that a known Omega dial?It is a model 198.0076 from circa 1973-1974.
More Omega boutique openings
You may have heard that Omega is expanding their boutiques worldwide. One opened in a upscale mall a few months ago and I was invited to their grand opening. Got to know a well trained associate and drooled over their watches on display. As I was chatting with my favorite associate, she mentioned that with all of the boutiques opening in the US, people have been sending their watches in for servicing instead of going to their ADs. She indicated that with the sudden influx of watches in for repairs and/or servicing, their NJ service center has stopped taking into new requests as they are backlogged and want to ensure their quaility control is not taking a back seat in the haste of turning requests around quicker. Not sure what's everyone's thoughts on the boutique model and its effect on the AD channel especially family owned businesses. One thing for sure, the ability to negotiate a discount in a boutique will be near impossible.
Has the craziness finally stopped??
I have been following all of the Black Bay ETA speculation on here for a while now and also just happened to notice LOTS of them for sale on WUS. Many have been for sale for a while now and are even having price drops. So, what gives, did everyone finally notice they are not super rare? Did everyone wake up and notice it was an ETA movement all at once?
