Omega is held in high regard in many circles?because they have been making concerted efforts toward improving the chronometric performance, reliability, and efficient of their movements. This began in earnest in 1999, when they launched their first movement with a co-axial escapement. More recently, we see them incorporating the use of silicon and non-magnetic metals in their movements, which culminated in the first of their Master Co-Axial movements - as seen in the Aqua Terra >15,000 Gauss watch. This month, we take a look at some of Omega's older movements - the Caliber 1120, 2500 and 8500 - all of which have seen service in countless Seamaster watches. It is always interesting to see people share their new purchases and explain why they chose what they bought. The reasons that affect and influence their purchasing decisions is always intriguing to me. And in this roundup, we have a biggie, because the watch in question is Greubel Forsey's Invention Piece 1. Still on the subject o
Sothebys Reveals Important Watches For May, 2014 Auction
Sponsored PostSotheby's is offering a varied selection of wristwatches, ranging from divers to rare chronographs in their Spring sale, taking place on 14th May, 2014 in Geneva. The morning auction will kick off with an array of modern Rolex Daytonas, which offer a variety of dial styles. The reference 16520 is well represented with two well-preserved watches, lots 34 and 35, featuring a floating Cosmograph dial. The so-called floating dial shows the designation Cosmograph with a marked distance from the Officially Certified line above. Another reference 16520 (lot 53) from a transitional period, believed to have been produced for one year only, displays a rare dial which does not include the Officially Certified feature. In the afternoon, vintage sports model wristwatches will be the stars of the rostrum. A beautifully preserved Rolex Daytona reference 6263 in stainless steel, lot 289, will be one of the first key elements of the sale for Daytona Collectors. Also notable is an e
Editorial: Cara's Favorite Watches From Baselworld 2016
This year was my very first Baselworld, and it was incredible. Despite being jet-lagged and hungry most of the time, the rush of running around and seeing all the new releases was really invigorating. We met with numerous brands from Rolex to Ressence and everything in between, all with very different offerings. Here are my top five favorite watches from Baselworld 2016. 1. Rolex Cosmograph Daytona In Black 1 OF 6 As much of a predictable cliché as this choice may seem, this watch was truly awesome to behold in person. Literally everyone at Baselworld (okay, maybe not everyone, but the entire HODINKEE team) was talking about this watch. And even though I like to go against the trend, I just couldn't help myself with this one. Both black and white dial versions were shown, but given the choice, I would definitely go for the all-black version with black Cerachrom bezel. It's just a super cool watch and even though it is 40 mm, it wears well on my wrist
