Found: A Patek Philippe Split-Seconds Chronograph Signed By Tiffany & Co. In Completely Original
Every watch guy's dream is to go up into his grandparents' attic, open up a dust covered shoe box, and discover an unmolested horological masterpiece. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. And that is exactly what happened here with what could easily be described as a mega watch - a Patek Philippe Reference 1436 Split-Seconds Chronograph Retailed By Tiffany & Co. in NYC dating to 1960. And, what makes this particular piece so special is that it is literally untouched and unmodified in any way. It comes with the original crystal, strap, and buckle, and the thing hadn't even been serviced!Made in 1960 and sold by Tiffany's NYC in 1961, it doesn't get much cooler than a vintage Patek split-seconds chronograph. There is something so masculine about the split complication, and to see it on such a refined piece like a 1960s Patek is just a wonderful juxtaposition. The estimate on this piece is $200,000-$300,000, which to us, considering the condition, se
BASELWORLD 2011 - New Model - Patek Philippe 5216R - Minute Repeater 5216
Patek Philippe Ref. 5216(Press Release and Images by Patek Philippe SA)After 18 successful years, a legendary Grand Complication with minute repeater, tourbillon, perpetual calendar, retrograde date, and moon phases unveils its new identityWith its new Ref. 5216, Patek Philippe rises to a further level of sophistication in minute repeaters, launching the legendary caliber R TO 27 PS QR LU movement with the five most popular complications in a perceptibly larger case that encloses a more voluminous resonant cavity to enhance the sonority of the chimes. This new Grand Complication follows in the footsteps of the famous Ref. 5016 that was launched in 1993 and in the past 18 years has been widely popular among aficionados. Until the Sky Moon Tourbillon was introduced in 2001, it was Patek Philippe’s most complicated wristwatch. Now, the new Ref. 5216R occupies rank 4 in this category, behind the Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref. 5002, the new Triple Complication Ref. 5208, and the Ref. 5207, f
Interesting experience with an AD here in TX
So I called the AP AD in Houston trying to get information on ordering a stainless bracelet for the Diver that I am picking up on Friday, and the lady was telling me that she couldn't order the bracelet for me because it would void the warranty. I had never heard that so I called the AD in Dallas and they mentioned that they could order it and it wasn't correct info. Has anyone else had mixed info like that before?
CK2998? Not!
Don't get me wrong. The 311.33.40.30.02.001 is a beautiful watch and I would not mind having one but the FOIS more closely resembles the original CK2998.Maybe Omega needed an excuse for another in the seemingly endless progression of Speedy LEs which allows them to use up some of the 39.7mm cases. My other criticism applies to the horrendous hobnail design of the case back which originated with the FOIS case back:The design of the pre-moon case back would have been more appropriate and much cleaner. It was a pre-moon back that I customized for my FOIS to commemorate Schirra's Sigma 7 Mercury flight:Again, I love the 311.33.40.30.02.001 but the purist in me had to get this off my chest.
New 1312
It's always a good day when a new watch arrives! Actually got this last week, just been too slow at posting up some pics.My third Panerai, but first I have gotten in some time and I am happy to be back. Not much to say that hasn't already been said on this watch, but it really is a great all around piece. The newer slightly more thin case really lends this watch to wearing comfortable and smaller than it looks. I love the clean dial, and even the pop of blue on the second hand. Already put the Brown Calf Assolutamente strap on it. I think the colors on the strap really lend itself well to this watch. Anyone have any other favorite straps for this watch? Likely going to get the green canvas for summertime. Thanks for looking.
