Ochs und Junior Watches
One of my heroes in watchmaking is a man named Ludwig Oechslin. He's the genius behind ultra-complicated watches such as the Ulysse Nardin Trilogy Set, the amazing UN Freak in addition to minimal classics such as the MIH watch. Recently, he the younger Beat Weinmann started a new company, Ochs and Junior (Och und Junior) and their watches are breathtakingly different from anything else out there. Let's take a look, and hopefully you'll see why I'm so excited by them.To start with, Ochs and Junior breaks three of the commandments of Swiss watchmaking: The dials lack all branding, the prices are affordable and the advertising non-existent. These are emphatically not "luxury" watches intended to impress; even their casework is done mostly by hand with machining marks deliberately left in place. Hand shapes are as simple as can be, and the unique complications are all based on the tracteur ETA 2824. These are watches for people who love watches, full stop.Looking at the two watches above,
Breaking News: General Patton's Watch C A Graduation Gift From His Parents C Sells For $137,000 At Auction
Remember General Patton's five-minute-repeating, split-second chronograph pocket watch that we covered here back in September? Well, it went up for auction today at Heritage Auctions and sold for a whopping $137,000.The watch was originally purchased for $350 (negotiated down from $600) by General Patton's father, George Patton II as a gift for his son back in 1927. 1 OF 2 The watch was originally estimated for $25,000 to 35,000 and hammered at $137,000, which is no surprise due to the provenance and level of complication. For full details on the lot, you can visit the Heritage website here. 2 OF 2

Another "His n Hers"
I'd bought her watch maybe less than a year ago, mine arrived sometime last month. Great to have a partner who shares my love for watches! Her watch is a quartz, both me and the AD went blue in the face extolling the virtues of mechanical timekeeping; cut no ice whatsoever.Being older and maybe a little wiser, I staged a strategic retreat, the AD battled on; poor fellow still bears some scars from that debate!
Rumour As Question: Is Rolex Pulling Out of Formula 1?
Please take this with a grain salt. Apparently, Rolex Executives are quite angry with the new owners of the Formula One Group. It is rumoured, Rolex will not renew any sponsorship with F1 when the contract terminates. One reason is that Rolex is angry that a certain Dutch brewing company has been infiltrating Rolex's product placement and that Rolex does not want to be associated with a beer company and all that it suggests. My source? Formula 1 season opens here in my neck of the woods and a few Rolex Executives are around. Once again, this is pure speculation but watch this space.
