Breguet Unveils New Reine de Naples Anniversary Edition on Isle of Capri
It’s been a big year for Breguet. Not only did the company kick off its sponsorship of Carnegie Hall with a brand-new tourbillon clock, it also celebrated, around the same time, the 200th anniversary of the wristwatch an invention of brand namesake Abraham-Louis Breguet with a preview of a complicated haute joallerie watch at an event on the Isle of Capri in the Gulf of Naples. The cornerstone of the international event was the latest stop of Breguet’s traveling “Reine de Naples” exhibit, which began in January at Geneva’s Cit du Temps before traveling to New York City and other major cities in the United States, Europe and Asia. The exhibit commemorates the 200th anniversary of what many historians believe was the very first timepiece for the wrist, made by Breguet, the legendary watchmaker, for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples.Caroline Murat, recipient of the very first wristwatchBreguet the brand pays tribute to that historic watch with its modern Re
Maurice de Mauriac Moon Chronograph Watch
A particularly attractive line from Maurice de Mauriac of Zurich is this Moon Chronograph watch collection. It comes in many different versions (see here), but is a pretty clever take on use of a Valjoux 7751 automatic movement. Seen here is the top of the line piece in solid pink gold, but the diversely customizable collection is offered in various case sizes, in various materials, with various dials.See my full article on the Maurice de Mauriac Moon Chronograph watch at Haute Living here.
Affordable Vintage: 1954 Longines Conquest
In 1954 Longines launched the Conquest line, and with it a new era for the company. The Conquest was the first step in a new development and marketing strategy with a named line or family of watches. Many more were to follow, but the venerable Conquest (such a killer name too…) was the beginning. Having a named family of watches certainly wasn’t introduced by Longines, but they definitely utilized the strategy to its fullest potential, and still use it today (as do most modern brands). After the Conquest came the Flagship, then the Admiral and Grand Prize among others. The first generation Conquest reviewed here is probably the most classic and easily recognizable iteration of the line for collectors of vintage watches. It ran from 1954 to about 1959, when a new case shape and movement were introduced. This Conquest was actually preceded by the All Guard, a watch that shared a similar case, movement, dial and hands. The case is a study in simple yet rugged understatement. Si
ROO strap compatibility?
Is it true that the diver and the 42mm ROO can share straps? What about the 44mm?If so, besides the rubber strap that comes with the diver, what other straps are available in tang buckle that would fit the diver or 42mm?Reason why I ask is because I like the 42mm versions too but hate the deployant buckle, interested in knowing what the options for tang buckles are if I went with a 42mm.
Omega Suing Costco
Saw an article in the Seattle times today where Omega is suing Costco for trademark infringement by selling grey market watches. Interesting.
