Hong Kong Watch Shopping Wonderland
Watch overload. One of the?best days in watches. These are some of the phrases used to describe our afternoon watch shopping in Hong Kong. And these statements are all the more powerful coming from guys who look at and write about watches all day, not to mention that we had just come from Watches & Wonders 2015, where we got to play with and photograph all the Richemont Group brands' haute novelties. What, then, got us so excited about these dingy little watch stores with hand-written price tags? Come along as watches-dealer explores the cluttered streets and hidden watch stores of Hong Kong...You may have heard that Hong Kong is a watch shopping paradise, but you may have also heard that the deep discounts the city was once known for are now a thing of the past. These are both true in a way. You will not simply find a lot of new watches at unbelievable prices, but you will find a preowned watch selection like nowhere else. We easily spent 45 minutes just freaking out in front
Audemars Piguet Square Royal Oak from the 80s-90s - info or opinions?
Hello All,I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight regarding my most recent purchase. I was specifically looking for an 80s watch and it doesnt get more 80s than this (square/angular style, two tone, and quartz). Although I was looking for a vintage thunderbird/turnograph or datejust from this time period, when i saw this, i let my impulse get the best of me.From my research, all I could gather is that this seems like a newer square royal oak because it has a date feature (might actually be from the 90s maybe?). But I dont know the model number or anything else. If someone can chime in with more information, that would be great. The only thing written on the watch is the serial number on the back. Also, feel free to let me know what you guys think about this watch. It is kinda dated, but I find it very unique and intriguing.Collectors say to avoid vintage quartz watches. But avoiding quartz watches is basically ignoring the 70s and 80s i'd say.
AP 15300 Rose Gold with bracelet?
Hey everyone! I'm probably not as informed about AP as some of you but I wanted to ask a quick questions about the 15300 series. Is the 15300 available in rose gold with a bracelet? I've seen the 15300 on the brown and black croc straps but never on a bracelet. I've seen the 15400 in ros gold with a bracelet but if find it too big for my 6.5in wrist. Also if the 15300 doesn't come in ros gold with full bracelet are there any other AP RO models that come in full gold bracelets and don't exceed 39mm. Thanks in advance.
Finally found Dad's 168.005 Constellation
I'm typically lurking over on the Rolex Vintage side; but, wanted to share a picture of my father's long lost Omega Constellation ref. 168.005 with a caliber 564 under the hood. Just got back from a cleaning and oiling and it's keeping extremely accurate time as one should expect from one of Omega's workhorse chronometer movements. On the way back from Vietnam by way of Hong Kong in mid 1967 my father bought this Constellation and a stainless steel Seamaster Chronograph with a cal. 321 which I have posted on this Forum previously and wear periodically. The Constellation has been hidden away for quite a long time and just recently surfaced. I just sourced The NOS 9 row BOR gold plated bracelet from Ted's Vintage Watches and while the gold isn't a perfect match; I'm liking the original look a lot. This is my only all gold piece and probably won't get a lot of wrist time but the sentimental value makes it a keeper.I understand these Connie Piepans are routinely faked or frankened; but as fa
