Inside The Manufacture: Two Days With Parmigiani Fleurier (And Some Thoughts On What 'In-House' Really Means)
When we talk about fine watchmaking, the words “in-house” and “manufacture” invariably come up. We use them to describe how vertically integrated a company is – in other words how much of a watch is actually made by the company whose name is on the dial, rather than purchased from outside suppliers. Many a watch guy will say that, everything else being equal, the more in-house the better. When thinking about high degrees of vertical integration in the watch industry, the two brands at the very top of the ladder are Rolex and Seiko. However, arguably just one rung down on that ladder is Parmigiani Fleurier. HODINKEE took a trip to the beautiful town of Fleurier in Switzerland's Val-de-Travers to learn more. 1 OF 34 Fleurier, Val-de-Travers History Parmigiani Fleurier's namesake, Michel Parmigiani, is a world-renowned horological restoration specialist. Omega Service.
Hi, question for you guys, I got my estimate from Omega today for service on my 2592.54 SMP. Its only 7 years old. They(Swatch Group) want 896.00 for full service on this watch. This includes new crown, new hands, new gaskets, overhaul the 3301 movement and polish the few scratches off the case and bracelet. The hands in my opinion were fine, Finks told me the lume was starting to peel and were afraid pieces would get into the movement. Original dial to remain. Is this a fair estimate or am I getting hosed? Granted its a genuine overhaul but jeeez!!! If I knew where else I could send it I might tell Omega to send it back. Any help appreciated and thanks in advance. AL

Rolex Rotor Click
I have a Rolex Explorer 1 and I have noticed that when gently shaking watch near my ear winding it with the automatic rotor I hear a click that sounds similar to the click when manually winding via the crown. Is this normal? It only clicks every few seconds and clicks faster if I shake or move it faster and it clicks no matter how slowly I rotate the watch so I think it's just the mansping being wound but am worried it could be the rotor being lose or some cog clicking that should be lubricated.Anyone else have the same noise or something similar? I have very sensible hearing so maybe it's me being crazy!
Trusted seller buying question
Looks like David SW will be my trusted seller of choice. If I purchase a submariner which is out of warranty should I have it serviced as soon as I receive it?
