JCK 2015: Ball Watch Engineer II Volcano Features New Antimagnetic Case
In 2014, Ball Watch broke new ground in antimagnetic watch technology with the introduction of its Engineer II Magneto S, a watch that featured an inner shield, made of a patented alloy called “mumetal,” which protected its mechanical movement from the adverse effects of magnetic fields. This year, the company takes the concept a step further with the Engineer II Volcano, which boasts an entire case made of antimagnetic mumetal. I got my first look at the watch this week at the JCK watch and jewelry fair in Las Vegas. Why “Volcano?” Because, the company says, volcanoes are among the most ideal environments for exploration and research into antimagnetic technologies because of their natural links to strong magnetic fields; volcanoes inspired Ball Watch’s researchers to further develop the magnetism-resistant mumetal alloy beyond its initial usage, as a protective inner “diaphragm” surrounding the movement, and incorporating it into the components
Breitling Emergency II Watch Featured In Top Gear's Last Aired Challenge
Being both a full-on watch and?car nut, you can imagine my surprise when in season 22 of British motoring show Top Gear I saw an entire "challenge" featuring a Breitling?Emergency II watch. Sure,?it is not unusual for watch enthusiasts to be car nuts as well C I have met countless watch nerds over the last few years who, after a bit of conversation,?showed their car lover side as well. Top Gear is a?motoring show that needs no introduction to any car fan in the world: viewed by around 350 million people every week in over 170 countries around the?globe, it features "three middle-aged men mucking about," driving in the latest and greatest sport cars, SUVs, luxury sedans, and, sometimes, in the worst machines the car industry has ever produced throughout its history.Given that vast audience in the hundreds of millions, Top Gear may seem the ideal vehicle (pun intended) for product placement. However C other than the cars, of course C product placements in the show have been few and far b
A Look at the Autodromo Prototipo Nero and Silver
A few months ago, I had the pleasure of reviewing the Autodromo Prototipos. These 70's inspired racing chronographs really struck a chord for me, with their excellent styling, superb detailing and reasonable prices. On top of that, they used Seiko Mecha-Quartz movements, which combine the affordability and accuracy of a quartz, with the functionality of a mechanical chronograph. These are movements that I'm a big fan of, and are grossly underused in the industry, so I was really excited to see them in such a cool watch.Recently, Autodromo added two more models to the Prototipo collection, bringing the total number of styles to 4 (well, technically 5 including the Vic Elford limited edition, but that is long sold out). The new models round out the series, adding a silver dialed version with orange accents for a retro palette, and a PVD model with yellow highlights for something more aggressive. Needless to say, I had to spend some time with the new versions after being smitten with the
Thinking about a Speedmaster...
Well guys this is my first post in the Omega section. As the title says I'm thinking about purchasing a Speedmaster, due to its rich history and my desire for a chrono. This likely wouldn't be for a couple years, but I like to dream. I will be going used on this one to save $$$. I would like to grab the Professional Moonwatch version. My question is what prices should I expect to find, depending how old the watch is, assuming its in average condition? That is, the expected price for a 5, 10, 15, or 20 year old piece, or older. Thanks!
Official Tudor Pelagos Owners Thread
I used the search function and much to my chagrin there was no official Tudor Pelagos owners thread. How is that even possible at this point? Well here you have it folks. THE thread of all threads. The one, the only, OFFICIAL TUDOR PELAGOS OWNERS THREAD! Here is mine fresh off the UPS truck.
