Six Boutique Dive Watches: The Very Best
Right now, we're in a golden age for dive watches. Companies such as Giovino, Palladium and others have made it possible to start your own company with as few as 400 watches, and the Internet has enabled the global reach that lets a niche company flourish. There are many out there, but for this post I'd like to collect my current favorites, representing a range of styles and prices, and in no particular order.Ocean7 LM-1 PVD with PVD sapphire bezelWhy I like itThis one is kind of like buying a car - tons of options, both pre and post sale.Sapphire bezel. PVD case or cold-hardened steel. Optional chronometer-rated movement. Killer luminosity. Good bracelet. Great price ($1,322 maxed out). User-changeable bezels to mix up the look. Workhorse ETA 2824 movement. What's not to like?Things I dislikeYou can see some distortion from the curvature of the crystal, and I'd prefer just white hands instead of Plongeur style orange. luxurious Baume Mercier Riviera Magnum XXL Flyback Chronograph Watch
Now up to 45 mm in width (an increase of 43 mm) the Baume & Mercier Riviera XXL Magnum beats the old XL in size and design for the look of the sportier version of the standard Riviera watch that was not exactly stoppered first. Complications include a 30-minute flyback chronograph powered by automatic REF. 8834 mechanical movement that is likely to be a modified Valjoux 7750. The dial of the watch is something that you have probably noticed. Call it the skeleton, the call a "view to the movement", the dial is actually a Sapphire tinted black. The text and the Roman numerals are applied directly on the dial tinted in light.
The Watch vs the Car
I saw a post on here that raised an interesting perspective. Luxury watches vs a luxury car. As men we all tend to like or desire luxury items such as cars and watches to say the least. I wanted ask the question of which item is the better VALUE? Notice I did not say better price. I am looking to see if someone can express or quantify the long term difference between the two Luxury items. My 2 examples:1st A pre owned AP Carbon may cost between $19k to $33k. In 10years of average wear and servicing it will be worth how much? 2nd A pre owned Porsche 911 may cost between $45k to 75k. In 10years of average wear and servicing it will be worth how much? I hope I explain my questions to you guys thoroughly. I am in the process of buying a car and I would like to buy my first AP by the holiday time. I am thinking of buying a Porsche but I think long term the AP is a better value.Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
1950s (we think) Omega - can anyone tell me anything from this picture?
Hi, This watch belonged to my friend's grandfather. He was a joiner and wore it every day of his long career, hence the scratches etc. As far as we know the lens, case, crown etc are all original. Sadly, for reasons known only to her, before passing it on to my friend a few years ago, his mother saw fit to dispose of the both the original box AND receipt!!! Compounding matters further, she put a very cheap and nasty strap on it, and disposed of what was presumed to be the original by its battered state! I know, I know..... the mind boggles.Anyway, the watch now belongs to my friend, and as he no longer has the receipt and box etc would like to know something, anything about it. I can probably get some more photos from him, but for now this is all he has sent me.Anyone?
Nautilus 5711-1a-010
Hello I have an opportunity to order a Blue 5711-1a-010 and receive it in a few to several months. It will be my fist PP purchase after two Rolex incl a SS Daytona 116520 which is incredible. Can anyone who owns or is familiar with the 5711 give their opinions on it. Fans say that the 5711 is their favorite PP period.? I have seen a video of problems with the clasp opening on its own and if it is as light at the steel aquanaut that raises concerns for me. Thanks
