Hands-On: The Van Cleef & Arpels Ronde Des Papillons, With On-Demand Dial Animation
Van Cleef & Arpels, usually associated with those little clover earrings and necklaces, has expanded its Poetic Complications collection this year with the Lady Arpels Ronde des Papillons watch (you may have read Jack's review of the Midnight Nuit Lumineuse, which was another addition to the collection this year). The Ronde des Papillons is a highly complicated and “feminine” watch that indicates the time with three butterflies (yes, you read that correctly). Now, before you click away because butterflies “aren’t your thing,” this watch was one of the more technically advanced watches seen this year at SIHH and deserves a closer look. 1 OF 6 The Lady Arpels Ronde is another impressive poetic complication. The watch features a 38 mm white-gold case with the bezel set with diamonds and an intricate engraving on the case back (of more butterflies). 2 OF 6 Okay, so first things first: the dial. The base of the dial is made o
To 5227 owners...
Can you please tell me the lug width? Can't seem to find it online. Been looking at the 5227g, and it's growing on me
Idenified my grail, would like some advice...
I want a 5146G....looks like a preloved one will run about 30K - 35K. I have about 10-15k of watches to be traded in...My question is what are the pros and cons of buying now vs waiting a few years to acquire one as far as pricing and availability. If i did acquire now it would likely be a safe queen for a few years before i established myself in my career enough to feel comfortable wearing it on a semiregular basis. (Whether or not this makes sense is a conversation for another thread). Is this a model that may become tough to aquire in the future or appreciate in value to the point where it would make more sense to buy it now? (Im NOT asking if its a good investment).thanks
First and last incoming of 2018..
So my affixation with Rolex started only recently in 2016, having bought my first decent mechanical watch in 2008 being the Breitling Super Ocean and then followed by an IWC Portuguese chrono, which is missed and a personal favourite from Darren Reay which was a cracking deal... Anyway fast forward to 2016 the Breitling went and was flipped for a used Rolex Explorer 2 Black dial followed by the IWC for the big hitter AP Royal Oak 15400, which is my most high end and least used watch for some reason, can work that one out. Then in 2017 March I want the BLNR, in the uk a little difficult to source, Added myself to the local AD list, waited a month then add myself to a list in Wilmslow on the Friday and less than 24hrs had the call .. still can work out what happened maybe put me at the top of the list in error, anyway the BLNR was in my collection.Roll on summer and the Sub mariner no date looked so perfect and still my most worn watch by a long way, not sure what it is with that one bu
Paranoia
Hello! Long time lurker here. First off a quick thank you to all you wonderful people for enabling this toxic hobby ! What with all those beautiful wrist shots . Anyways I acquired a Submariner this June, and I'm still deeply in love with it . Yesterday however I took a fall right outside my house . Had an exam the next day and didn't really pay attention to the weather warnings for frost. While my butt took most of the force of the fall ( I know because it is still sore 24 hours later ), I think I might have broken the fall abit with my wrist, which of course, had my beloved 114060 strapped to it . While there seems to be nothing wrong with time keeping( fingers crosse), I fear I might have dislodged/loosened something? Every time I shake the watch I can hear a very very low pitched whirl of the rotor . Compared to my seamaster, everyone would've called this whirl inaudible. But I'm just paranoid ! I can't remember if this whirl was there before the fall ! Granted I have pretty excell
